Tixel for surgical scarring and acne scars

Tixel scar treatment can help improve uneven texture caused by indented acne scars and some fully healed surgical scars. The controlled heat creates tiny micro-injuries in the skin, encouraging collagen renewal and gradual scar remodelling. This can help soften scar edges and make the skin look smoother and more even.

This also dramatically reduces scars from those who’ve had plastic surgery.

For acne scarring, Tixel can be applied to individual scars or wider areas of pitted and uneven texture. Treatment is usually more suitable once active acne is under control. Surgical scars must be completely healed before treatment and are assessed individually, as the age, depth, position and type of scar can affect the treatment plan.

What preparation do you need for a Tixel treatment

No retinol pretreatment. If you suffer from cold sores, please take acyclovir for 3 days before the outbreak. Arrive with no makeup & bring sunglasses & a lightweight scarf. Buy a pot of Aqueous Cream or La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5+ or Avène Cicalfate.

What post-care is required?

These are 2 days of true downtime; cover your face with a light scarf or hat IF you have to pop out!

Immediately after treatment, the skin will feel HOT. Wait until the skin is COOL (1-3 hours); only then apply your post-care cream.
Bring a light scarf and sunglasses with you to your appointment & a hat! (if you’re having tixel face )

Once the skin has COOLED after treatment, apply La Roche-Posay Cicaplast, Avène Cicalfate/Cicaplast or aqueous cream/Aquaphor balm.

Reapply regularly for 7 days. Do not use any other skin products during this time.

Apply SPF 50 or 30 after 48 hrs; you can go out & about now, but try to limit UV sun exposure. Wear a baseball hat or a straw hat! Light gridding (microcrusts) will appear after 48 hr; do not pick or rub them. Buy Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Wash for cleansing am & pm.

ONLY USE THE ABOVE PRODUCTS

Avoid retinol/vitamin A products for 2 weeks after Tixel. You can resume your normal skincare after 7-8 days.

Use Cetaphil gentle cleanser am & pm. No water on the face for the first 24 hours. Sonia will give you saline wipes to clean your skin for the first 24 hours.

What does Tixel treat?

Is Tixel suitable for the eye area?

Yes. Tixel is often chosen for the upper and lower eye areas, where patients want to improve the look of crepey skin, lines and general skin texture without surgery.

How much downtime is there after Tixel?

Downtime depends on how strong the treatment is and which area is treated. After a stronger resurfacing treatment, it is common to see redness, light gridding and small micro-crusts for around 3–4 days. Downtime is some microcrusting little bronze grids on the face & possibly a bit blotchy / Erythema for 4-5 days. These effects are temporary and part of the healing process.

When can I wear makeup or SPF after treatment?

Makeup (mineral advised) and SPF can usually be applied 48 hours after treatment, following your aftercare advice.

How many Tixel treatments will I need?

This depends on your skin concerns, the treatment area and the result you want to achieve. Sonia will recommend the most suitable plan during your consultation.
