How does it work?

The CEREPEN creates temporary micro-punctures in the stratum corneum in a controlled manner. This forms a controlled skin lesion without actually damaging the skin, which then starts the wound healing process. This process releases various growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor, transforming growth factor alpha and beta, connective tissue-activating protein, connective tissue growth factor and fibroblast growth factor. The micro-channels heal according to the three classical phases of wound healing and illustrate how microneedling works.

FAQs

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

For best results, we usually recommend a course of 3 treatments, spaced around 1 month apart, followed by occasional maintenance treatments depending on your skin and goals.

Which microneedling option should I choose?

PDRN or polynucleotides are excellent options for ageing skin and for age-prevention. We also offer other microneedling options for pigmentation and other skin concerns. We will assess your skin on the day and advise you on the best option for you, so there is no need to worry.

Is there any downtime after microneedling?

There is very little downtime. Your skin may look pink after treatment and feel slightly tingly. Over the next couple of days this is usually barely noticeable, although you may have some mild sensitivity or a little erythema in places. Mineral makeup is usually fine the next day.

What is the aftercare following microneedling?

For 3 days after treatment, avoid hot treatments, steam rooms, heavy sweating, intense exercise, swimming and saunas. Wear SPF 50 and minimise sun exposure.

Are there any products I should avoid or use?

Avoid retinol for 7 days after treatment and for 1 week before your appointment. For aftercare, use a simple, gentle moisturiser such as La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5, Avène Cicalfate or Cetaphil moisturiser. These are all excellent post-treatment creams.

When can I wear makeup after microneedling?

The next day is usually fine. Mineral foundation or mineral powder is preferred.

Can I go on holiday after?

Yes, but ideally wait 7 to 10 days before going on holiday. Wear a hat and use SPF 50.
