However, there are many types of pigmentary disorders, which may be inherited or gained (infection, side effects of disease, etc.), influencing our skin tone and appearance. Some disorders affect patches of the skin, while others affect the entire body, with different “diffusion” within the skin in lateral directions and depth. Moreover, the pigmentary disorders may appear because of an increase in the concentration of melanocytes and some in the Melanin production itself.

What skin types are treatable?

Because of Viora’s advanced PCR™ technology, IPL can be tailored to treat a wide range of skin types safely and effectively.

Do I need a patch test for IPL?

Yes. All first-time laser or IPL clients need a patch test and consultation, which is included. This allows us to assess your skin response, suitability and treatment settings safely before your full appointment.

Which IPL treatment do I choose?

If your main concern is skin rejuvenation and ageing prevention, IPL skin rejuvenation is an excellent option. IPL can also be used for pigmentation, redness, vascular lesions and hair reduction, and we can advise you on the day and tailor the treatment to your skin concerns.

When will I see results?

While each person is different, many clients notice improvement after their first session, with best results usually building over a course of treatments.

Do treatments hurt?

Viora’s contact cooling system cools the skin before, during and after each pulse, making treatment very comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as warm or slightly tingly rather than painful.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

This depends on the concern being treated, but many clients benefit from a course of 3 treatments spaced about 1 month apart, with occasional maintenance sessions if needed.

How long do treatments take?

Viora’s PCR™ technology allows for quick, efficient treatment. Most sessions take between 5 and 40 minutes depending on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan.

Is there any downtime after IPL?

There is usually very little downtime. The skin can look pink after treatment and may feel a little warm or tingly. Over the next couple of days it is usually barely noticeable, though some people experience slight sensitivity or small areas of redness.

What should I do after IPL treatment?

For 3 days after treatment, avoid hot treatments, steam rooms, heavy sweating, intense exercise, swimming and saunas. Keep sun exposure to a minimum and wear SPF 50 daily. Applying aloe vera gel can help soothe the skin, and you can cool the treated area with a cold compress or ice wrapped in a flannel for 5 to 10 minutes after treatment and again later that day if needed.

What skincare should I avoid around my IPL appointment?

Avoid retinol for 1 week before and 1 week after treatment. After IPL, use a gentle bland moisturiser such as La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, Avène Cicalfate or Cetaphil moisturiser.

When can I wear makeup after IPL?

Usually the next day is fine. Mineral foundation or powder is preferred if you would like to wear makeup sooner.

Can I go on holiday after IPL?

Yes, but it is best to wait 7 to 10 days before going into strong sun. Wear a hat and use SPF 50.

How long do the results last?

Results vary depending on the treatment area and concern. In some cases maintenance is not needed, while in others a maintenance session every 3 to 6 months helps keep results looking their best.
